Mitochondria is the powerhouse of all cells. It is imperative we look in and support the mitochondrial function before we start treating any other symptoms. Each cell in the body can contain mitochondria by the thousands and the number of mitochondria in a cell can depend largely on the function of each cell.
The “mighty mitochondria” are the cellular power plants that keep your metabolism humming by consuming oxygen and turning sugars, fats, and proteins that we eat, into forms of chemical energy called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Your body uses this ATP fuel for almost everything: from blinking, to breathing, thinking and playing your favourite sports. The mitochondria are also responsible for maintaining a healthy metabolism, burning fat, detoxification, healing, and fighting oxygen-based free radicals.
Without properly functioning Mitochondria and ATP, we won't have a properly functioning body. You're going to get poor performance from your body and brain, you're going to feel increasingly tired and you'll age quicker.
Mitochondria dysfunction is also shown to play a major role in chronic illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and neurodegenerative diseases, which affect 1 out of every 2 people. Recent studies have shown that approximately 90% of deaths, diseases, and poor performance is due to mitochondrial dysfunction resulting from the negative impact of inflammation and oxidative stress caused by hidden environmental stressors.
It is important we understand how mitochondria works and how to optimize its function.
At Deep Blue Sea Holistic, we measure your mitochondrial power state and its functionig level using Heart Rate Variability (HRV) testing. If dysfunction is detected, we will utlise a specific muscle testing to check the total mitochondrial metabolic pathway. This combination of testing will give you a very clear picture of the condition of your mitochondria and its ATP production level. Treatment approach will vary depending on these test results.
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection which can lead to severe mental and physical problems including chronic fatigue and depression; it can also be an important factor in Autism. This ‘silent’ disease can also be misdiagnosed as an auto-immune disorder.
According to The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) there are 3,000 cases of Lyme disease reported in the UK each year, but the number is likely to be much higher. Lyme disease is not only transmitted by ticks, it can also be passed on by mosquitos and fleas, sexual intercourse, the placenta, breastfeeding, blood transfusions and infected food.
Lyme and its Co-infections
The unfortunate reality is that once you have Lyme disease, it opens the door to a range of co-infections which come with their own symptoms, therefore leading to multi-layered chronic conditions.
The key Lyme and co-infections we look for are:
- Borrelia burgdorferi
- Bartonella henselae
- Babesia microti
- Mycoplasma
- Nanobacteria
- Rickettsia
- Ehrlichia
- Chlamydia
- Bona Virus
- Viruses (EBV, CMV, HHV6, Coxackie)
We, humans, are just as likely to have parasites as our friends in the animal kingdom, especially if we travel, eat raw food or have pets.
Parasites are behind a huge range of conditions such as;
- Constipation
- Diarrhoea
- Gas
- IBS
- Digestion issues
- Insomnia
- Brain fog
- Skin irritation
- Unexplained rashes
- Hives
- Rosacea
- Eczema
- Muscle and joint ache
- Fatigue
- Jaundice
- Depression and/or obsessed thoughts - and many more.
Itsuko also looks at whether toxicity from heavy metals and the environment is a factor in a range of chronic conditions.
The renowned holistic practitioner, Dr Margaret Gennaro, whom Itsuko has trained with while she was in USA, uses an excellent bathtub analogy to explain how the body and toxicity work:
“The size of the bathtub is your genetics and other hereditary/acquired tendencies. If your ancestors have had certain health issues, toxic exposure, genetic glitches and physical or emotional trauma your bathtub will be smaller.
The faucets coming into the bathtub are: food that we eat, the environment that you are exposed to (chemical and heavy metals, EMF, drugs and vaccinations – for those susceptible, environmental factors) and emotional trauma and stress that are personal and transgenerational.
The drain in the bathtub is made of: the Intestine, liver and kidneys, immune and hormonal systems, and mental, emotional and spiritual healing. If the drain is plugged up and the faucets are going strong, the water in the bathtub will overflow. This causes you to experience symptoms. This can be anything from a runny nose to cancer.”
