Drainage 101: Bowl Movement

Detox is a trendy term, along with “cleansing.” However, many people start detoxing the wrong way, leaving them feeling worse than when they began. When motivated by the idea of detox, people often turn to Google orsocial media at first. There, the majority recommend juicing, water-fasting, intermittent fasting, taking heavy metal chelators, or using antimicrobial remedies like anti-parasitic andanti-fungal. They aim to “mobilise” toxins and “kill” pathogens to detox asfast as possible.

While this logic may sound sensible, this approach to detox could backfire. It’s crucial to support the body’s drainage pathways—your exit for toxin and pathogen elimination—first to help remove them effectively. The first and most important drainage pathway to establish is the colon!

Let’s say the community you live in is your body. Each house in your community is a body cell. You take household rubbish out to the bin outside your house. Now imagine what happens if the weekly rubbish collection stops coming or comes only once every other week or only monthly. Likewise, if you try to force upstream detox out of your body cells without increasing and optimising drainage pathways, your issues will only pile up, won’t they?

So, the efficient way is not to increase the upstream detox straightaway but to increase bowel movements first—frequent and efficient bin collection! You need to poo regularly, first and foremost. This makes room for wastes and toxins to flow downward for elimination.

Healthy Bowels:

As a sign of healthy digestion, individuals should have 2 to 3 bowel movements a day. Essentially, there should be a bowel movement for every meal you’ve had. Your bowel shouldn’t be too hard or soft. There should be no strain when emptying bowels if your body is optimally detoxing. Straining too much can lead to haemorrhoids and other issues. Stools shouldn’t be watery without formeither. In between is the standard.
